I have always wanted to believe that people are inherently good. I have always thought that cruelty was the result of desperation or ignorance. Learning that wasn't the case was difficult for me to accept and it shows. I still struggle with it, but I also trust myself to know that just because I don't want it to be the case, I can trust what I'm seeing.
