Racism is About Power
Racism is not about hate in anyone’s heart so stop saying that nonsense.
Racism is about power.
Imma say it again: racism is about power.
It’s not about love, hate, compassion, understanding, fear, jealousy, rage, or spite. It’s not about being able to have difficult conversations. It’s about white people having the power of life, death, and freedom while restricting access to everybody else. That’s it. That is the motivation behind racism.
If you stop framing racism around love and hate and call it the power grab that it is, you’ll stop being surprised by white people who refuse to change.
There’s a reason why the needle never moves when it comes to talking about oppression with white people. There is a reason why that needle never shifts and we’re having the same conversations from 10, 20, 50, 100, & 200 years ago. White people know that oppression is the source of their power. They know it and they’re not giving that power up. They’re never going to give that power up. Ever. Instead, they will keep pretending to care, seeking the illusion of progress while nothing actually changes. They will keep rewriting history, criminalizing their hurt feelings, erasing the lives and experiences of Black people while reinforcing their white supremacist army of the…
