The Kids Are Not Exempt From Settler-Colonialist Violence
And Neither Are You
I don’t read enough because until the recent intensification of Palestinian genocide, I did not have an adequate framework to talk about the settler-colonialist ideology that drives white supremacist identity. I have written numerous essays discussing the ridiculousness of white people who can tell you how their forefathers arrived on the continent yet claim to be native to this land. I have talked about the unrelenting violence they inflict on Black people, and themselves, a violence they continually project onto the people they are harming. The violence that is heavily encoded into their semblance of culture, which they deny as they murder people to preserve their gun rights.
It is incredibly difficult to articulate how entwined violence is in the u.s. way of life, at least it was until October 2023. Since the drastically increased violence inflicted on Palestinian people while those inflicting the violence dehumanized them while engaging in mass murder and calling it peace, it has been easier to classify that violence as settler-colonialism, a concept created by western society but left unnamed because genociders don’t create words to identify their terrible actions.
