Western culture has trained you to view your existence through a hierarchal lens. You apply it to EVERYTHING.
Even when you think you aren’t, you are. It is almost impossible to avoid as we are taught to prioritize aspects of our very existence.
It’s one of the reasons we’re so fucking depressed.
Because the resources we need to survive are hoarded & guarded, to the point that they regulate & penalize people for being self-sufficient, we are forced to prioritize our survival needs based on how long we will live without meeting that need.
Pleasure, relaxation, & fun tend to be at the bottom.
Our access to medical care is tied to employment. Our employers limit our access to medical care based on the number of hours we work for them. They require us to spend a large number of our waking hours laboring for them, limiting our opportunities to play, explore, be creative, and rest.
It makes life fucking dreary. It makes existing hard. It makes us miserable.
I’ve realized several times in my life that I had to incorporate some kind of joy or I wouldn’t keep choosing life. I’ve hit this point multiple times as an adult — in my mid 20s, 30s, and 40s.
