To All The People Demanding Compassion For The Titan Casualties

I have lived my entire life having the murders of people who look like me and my family justified, belittled, dismissed, and even blamed for their own murders simply for existing and not being deferential enough for white people’s satisfaction. I have seen their murders put on repeat in news cycles for weeks on end. And these aren’t always strangers. Some of these people were classmates, relatives, and friends. Even in fictionalized media, I have seen the few Black characters brutally murdered and their bodies put on grotesque display and the people who murdered them be hailed as heroes. This is the reality for me.
So when people who aren’t routinely subjected to this type of violence, who have benefitted from this violence, who give no fucks about the victims of their violence, make bad decision after bad decision and invite death into their lives, the absurdity of it is pretty hard to ignore. It’s such a stark juxtaposition to my reality. That these people would willingly do this ridiculous and avoidable thing that ended in such a predictable way, is wild.
And if you think people don’t cheer for the murders of marginalized people in this country, that they don’t consistently tell us that we bring every single harm that comes our way on ourselves; that we aren’t told that we do not warrant…
